Feeling the Burn of Aries Season

The Sun entered the sign of Aries on March 20, bursting forth the initiative, creative and fiercely independent energies of the Ram. We can feel into these energies when we contemplate the Mars rulership of this sign and its qualities of heat, going first, advocacy, courage, dominance, and victory (to name a few). Mars, however, has been somewhat "compromised" as its been chilling in the watery, emotional and vulnerable sign of Cancer which is not its most comfortable zone. All of this to say, the energies flowing through Aries these weeks have been overseen by a Mars that is treading in somewhat uncomfortable water. Let's get into it...

Aries Season 3/20-4/19
Ohhh where to begin? This season is FULL of strong astrological energies that have most liken shaken all of us, in one way or another. And so much of these feelies are concentrated in the sign of Aries so we will keep most of our focus on this sign. Aries is ruled by Mars (described above) and the Sun is exalted here, while Venus is in detriment and Saturn is in its fall. Of dominant note IMO is the fact that Venus has been moving retrograde through the sign of Aries since March 1. So wherever Aries falls in your chart, my guess is that its not been a picnic. Venus typically is all about love, pleasure, art, travel...all the good things that we endulge in and that foster our self care. But in retrograde through a sign it struggles to operate on its own accord in, we are called to review, reevaluate and rediscover what really matters to us and what brings us joy. All this under that Mars in Cancer vibe. Soooo, maybe you've been feeling a bit down, or a bit reflective, or wondering about the meaning of it all, or questioning a life choice, or wanting to go in a new direction....or simply just not being able to access the joy you typically do. To boot, Mercury has also turned retrograde (in Aries) on 3/14, so this would only complicate the mental energies we have going on.
I do feel, however, that sometimes we find our deepest truths and highests selves through struggle. Sometimes we need to question what's important to us to be able to dig back in and re-commit to what we want in our lives. And this energy is available here. And the bright news is that Mercury will station direct on 4/6, Venus will station direct on 4/12, and Mars will ingress into Leo on 4/18. So I do feel that by the middle of April, some of these energies will shift and we may regain some positive footing and restored optimism.
So where is Aries in your chart? How have you been feeling these energies show up in your life and in the lives of those around you?
Zooming out to an outer planet, we also have a HUGE ingress on 3/30 when Neptune changes signs from Pisces into (take a guess...) ARIES and will be moonlighting in this sign until 2039! The last time Neptune was in Aries was from 1861-1875, a historical period marked by significant cultural transformations and shifts. Neptune is associated with visions, dreams, mysticism, ideals, illusion and the imaginative realms of existence. When we couple these associations with the energies of Aries, and consider this shift on a more macro level, we can contemplate how this may herald in a new historical period of bold envisionings, dramatic new beginnings, and perhaps agressive illusions (or delusions). This period could bring in new energies in the spiritual consciousness of the collective.

Fairy Card Reading for the Month
And finally, our monthly fairy card reading from the Fairies' Oracle deck by Brian Froud with text by Jessica Macbeth. (meditation below)

Epona's Wild Daughter card is in the family of cards called the Challengers. Very appropo for our focus this month on Aries. This family of cards calls upon us to "pass their tests." This particular card is about passing through the torments of our own inner hell, the "Gates of Despair," to find our way to transformation. This card tests our courage with a small promise that by facing our own demons, we will never fear them again. There is a energy to this card of looking back in order to move forward. This fairy is not afraid. And we can borrow her courage at this time.
Meditation Questions:
1) What is buried in my past that is still unresolved? What supports do I now have that I can lean on/into to heal?
2) What are my dreams/nightmares communicating to me?
3) Where in my life do I exhibit courage? What does it feel like to embody bravery?
4) What does my highest self most desire?
